In October 2004 the
Arizona State University Department of Philosophy established a memorial
scholarship fund in Christine's name. Thanks to the generosity
of the Sato family, and the contributions of many of Christine's friends,
the fund has officially become an endowed scholarship. Special thanks
to Christy
Hansen and Professor Bernard Kobes (from the Philosophy Dept.), and
to Jill DeMichele of the ASU Foundation
for their efforts in creating this scholarship.
This is such a fitting and living
memorial to Christine that I hope everyone is able to donate.
I have attached a copy of the pledge/donation form for the scholarship.
If you'd like to contribute to the
Christine Sato Memorial Scholarship in Philosophy
Endowment
please click
on the button at the top of this page, print
out the pledge/donation form and send it along with your contribution to
the ASU Philosophy Department (the address is on the form)
This April was the first award of the
Christine Sato Memorial Scholarship in Philosophy.
The initial award ($500) was presented to two deserving students in the
philosophy department. The first recipients were Matthew Estes and
Kristin Hagan. Christy Hansen reports that "...Professor Bernard Kobes
gave a very moving and heartfelt speech about "Chrissy" and how much
she was respected and liked by the members of the faculty who knew her.
He also spoke of the many contributions she made to the world and how
successful she had become in her short life."
